Freedom Of Speech... But Don't Take It Too Far!!

In my Humanities Class, Policy, we finished our last term of this class. I am so happy that I was able to take this class because I now know what I want to be in life because of this class. This class helped me realized that I willIn class, we have been learning a lot about the Supreme Court and the types of power that this court has. For this AP, we had to chose a certain case and talk about how that certain case was involved with this case. I learned so much from this case because the one that I chose actually deals with my life as a teenager in school. I chose slideshow format for this AP because they help me gather more information and I actually understand the work that I am doing. We visited the Veteran's Arts Museum and it was so interesting being able to see actual clothing and letters from important wars gives you a different look on it. In my STEAM class, Urban Planning, we are in our last unit, Flow. We have been studying how different cities have different styles of urban planning. We visited the Pedway Tunnels for an FE which was really cool because I don't take public transportation, except for when I am going on an FE, and it was amazing seeing the way that the architects designed this underground tunnel for people when the weather is looking rough. We watched 3 different Ted Talks but they were all about urban planning. James Kunstler talked about urban planning "disappointing cities". Ellen James Dunham talked about turning dead malls into community spaces for the people that live in the same area. Majora Carter spoke on getting more green spaces in under privileged neighborhoods. I agree with Dunham and Carter because what they are trying to do is make communities better and stronger for the people that live in the same space/ area. Revenge Can Be Interesting!

In my humanities class, Policy, we finished our second unit, Executive. We have been learning more about the Supreme Court and the different wars that took place that dealt with America. An FE that we went to during this unit was a murder trial at the Criminal Court House. This FE was very eye opening to me because I want to become a lawyer, mostly a prosecutor. It was amazing watching the prosecutor ask questions that all dealt with each other but she asked them in ways that she knew that the witness would know the answer too because the defendant would try to object but the judge would let the witness answer the questions only if she had any knowledge about it, which she did. It was so inspirational but it made me think about how the prosector worded her questions because it made it easier for me to understand what was going on and she asked them in a way where the witness had to explain everything that was going on when he crime went down. Opposites Attract!!

In my STEAM class, Urban Planning, we finished our second unit, Power, and we learned a lot about circuits and eco friendly home appliances. For this unit, we went to the Museum of Science and Industry to watch the Tesla coil be set off. That was a really cool experience because I wasn't expecting for the coil to be that loud. We have been studying circuits and how to make them. We learned about the different symbols that are used for circuits when you draw them out. For this AP, we were paired up with another person in our class and that made the process of this project better because there was a lot of work that had to be done for this AP. The format for this AP, was slideshow format. In our slideshow, you will see the circuit that we created, the eco friendly home appliances that each resistor is representing, calculations, and more. Dear Toi Hutchinson

In my Humanities class called "Policy", we have been talking a lot about the US Constitution and all of the important people or groups that help with the government. For this AP we had to write a letter to someone that represents us in some type of way and we had to give them our opinion on if we agree if a certain bill should or shouldn't be passed so that she can or can't become laws. I chose a senator of my state. Her name is Toi Hutchinson. I chose her because she is actually a friend of my moms and I thought that it would be cool if she read how I felt about something and if it should have an impact or not. Toi Hutchinson is a senator for the state of Illinois. She is a Democrat and represents the 40th district and assumed office January 5, 2009. Can You Truss Your Bridge?

This is the last term of my junior year in my STEAM class called "Urban Planning". We have been focusing on bridges during the first unit of Urban Planning called "Load". We looked at different types of bridges and we studied why some bridges are more stable than others. We also learned about the forces that act upon bridges and the different types of energy that is created. For this AP, we had to build a bridge with our partners out of toothpicks and we tested them with weights in the OC. This was a very fun process and I enjoyed watching how my classmates had different ideas for the same type of bridge. My partner and I put a lot of work into building our bridge and I am happy that we were able to work with each other without any problems. I hope you enjoy my project, Thank You! Help Out Your Community!

This is my last AP in my humanities class called A Nation's Argument. In this class we have been learning about thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. For this AP, we decided to hold a police assembly in our class with four guest. Some of our guest had deaths in their families and the reason why they do what they do with their community is because of the death that happened. My role for this assembly was to be the MC. In the beginning, I had everyone introduce themselves and then we went into an icebreaker to get to know our guest better. This is my last AP for my STEAM class called Light, Sound, and Time. In our last unit, we have been focusing on time and how there are different devices made to tell time. For this AP, we had to design a new version of a clock and add something to it so that it is an original. At first, I felt like this was going to be hard because I didn't know what exactly to add to a clock. My design is based off of a couple different devices that are already made that people use on a daily basis. We had to make a video explaining what our device is and how it functions. We looked at different types of clocks for this unit as well. Some examples that we looked at were sundials, candle clocks, incense clocks, hourglasses, atomic clocks, and water clocks. We learned a lot about latitude and longitude and how these two can help you find out the time without a clock available. Homemade Diddley Bow!!

In my STEAM class, Light, Sound, and Time, we have been focusing on the vibrations that come from guitars. We visited Chicago Music Exchange for an FE, and we learned about the different guitars and why some cost much more then others. We learned about the guitar and how each part of the guitar does something to help produce sound. The guitar strings can be made with different materials, which would give the guitar a different pitch because each different material produces a different sound. It can also have a different pitch based off of the thickness, tension, and length of the string. For this AP, we made a Diddley Bow for our project. We had to bring in a can and battery and Adam gave us wood, screws, and guitar strings. Making the Diddley Bow was the hard part. I struggled with making sure that the guitar string was tight so that there could be a noise coming from the Diddley Bow. Is This Test Fair?

In my Humanities course called "A Nation's Argument", we have been learning about immigration and what immigrants have to go through just to become a US citizen. We visited the city hall and we listened to the city council committee and what they think about public charge. Something that we learned about immigrants wanting citizenship is that they have to take a test about the history of America and important days or facts about America. In class, we had our own citizenship test and no one passed the test with a 100%. When I was reading the questions off for another classmate to answer, I didn't know some of the answers to the questions myself and I am a US citizen. So I can understand how hard it is for other people to study these questions because if it doesn't connect to you or your family or something that you care for, then why should you have to know some of the questions that have to deal geography or in the 1800's? Pinhole Capturing!

In my STEAM class called Light, Sound, and Time. In this class, we have been watching videos on the three of these things relate in one way. We learned about how things get there color and how the eye perceives color in different ways. We learned about light waves and sound waves. Light waves are transversal. Sound waves are longitudinal. We have been looking at cameras and how they are able to take pictures. For this AP, we designed a pinhole camera. We had to bring in an oatmeal can or a box for the body of the camera. We had to bring in soda cans for the covering of the hole that is cut into the body of the camera. After the aluminum was in the box or oatmeal can, we stuck a hole in the middle of the aluminum piece with a pin because that is where the light is going to get through. We had to paint the inside of the body of the camera black and cover up all spaces where light could get into the camera because if there was some form of light in the body then the camera would not be ab...

College Is The Way To Success!!

In Argument, we have been focusing on what an argument really is and why an argument can be a great thing for certain subjects. For this AP, we had to make an argument about a class that GCE should have at the school. We learned about inductive and deductive reasonings and how those have to deal with arguments. I changed the subject that I wanted to do for this project because I wanted to have a class that everyone should want to take because I know that a lot of students want to attend college and perferably the college of their choice. Now that we have different people in the government some people have to work harder for things than others. Time To Give Up Your Old Clothes

This is my last AP in my Humanites elective class called Global Peace. In this class we have been working on nonviolent acts that help with violent acts that are going on all around the world. We had to creat some type of challenge as our nonviolent act. I chose to do turns that most people can not do in the world. I will have people come and give away their clothes to drives that are taking clothes because there are people in this world that need the clothes more. We hade to write a paper with 500 words or more to explain what you are doing and how your act helps with the world and we also had to create a slideshow or video to show the challenge that we decided to take. I hope you enjoy my project and hopefully you want to give away clothes that you no longer need to people that really need these items in life. Do You Got The Moves?

In my elective class called "Game Changers",we have been working on creating our own game. We went to stores for materials that we will need for our game. We went with the idea that I made up for the game because Aaron thought that it was a great idea. The game consists of learning how to dance and memorizing dance moves. While I was designing this game I was thinking about it becoming a party game or a family game because you can have fun and you will have to interact with other people for this game. The age range for this game would be 7-adult because I test played this game with younger children and the people who played were 5-adults. I saw that the 5 and 6 year olds were not understanding what to do and the 7- up were able to remember the steps easily and didn't need help with the dance choreography that was given to them. This game was very fun to make and I enjoyed creating a game that I thought would be fun for people to play because a lot of people enjoy dancing ...

Activist Paper

In my elective course called Global Peace, we have been focusing on the Gandhi principles and how people use these principles throughout their lives. For the AP, we had to type a 4-6 page paper about an activist that we chose, according to a list of activist that the teacher gave us. I chose Deray Mckesson to be the activist that I wrote my paper on. The process of this paper was very interesting and intense. I felt like I was going to struggle a lot with this paper because I was nervous. Sharon helped me by giving me corrections and helping me with the guide of the paper. Once I recieved all of the corrections from Sharon and applied them to my paper, that helped me a lot and I was able to continue to work on my paper. The rubric that Sharon gave the class was extremely helpful and that helped me with knowing exactly what to put on my paper because I was confused on what to talk about with the paper especially since it is a 4-6 page paper. Can You Rhetorically Dance

In Rhetoric, we are on our last AP. For this AP, we had to create a piece of art that for all of the things we learned in Rhetoric. For the piece of art, I chose to dance. I chose the dance as my version of art because I am a dancer and I can dance and be able to tell a story with out saying anything. My candidate was Willie Wilson. It was kind of hard to dance to something for Willie Wilson because the way he presents himself is not in a musical way, so I chose to dance to a song that I performed at an open mike that Chance The Rapper hosts on a Monday every month because he is helping another mayoral candidate and I wanted to show that he also cares about the youth. The mayoral candidate that Chance endorsed is Amara Enyia. Chance has recently endorsed her online, and this is really important to me because Chance is closer to younger people, teenagers, and this will help Amara on the long end because the more people get to know her from Chance, the more people she have who will vote ...

The Check Bike

In Design and Engineering, we have been working on our last AP for this term. For this project, we had to get a character that Adam assigned us and we had to design a new bike. We had three different people come in who work with bike companies and they talked to us about the type of bike they have, problems they have with it and reasons why they like the bikes. This was a partner project and my partner and I worked great together. We both did work and we made sure that everything was needed and all of the right information was on the right slides. Each group of partners got a person, and we had to design a certain bike for our character. We had to take a bike and add more things to it so that it could fit our person perfectly. When we were creating our bike, I decided that we should 3D print our model so that it could look better than a bike made out of straws and wooden popsicle sticks. Pascal's Triangle

In my workshop, Prove It or Lose It, we have been working on what combinations are and what the Pascals's Triangle is. We have been working on finding different ways to go from point A to point B. We learned about the equation on how to tell if the triangle equals each other.  A combination is something that deals with letters or numbers, and you can find a different ways to mix the letters or numbers, so that each letter/ number ends up in a different place each time. For example, if we use the word CAT. I can make 6 different words from this 3 letter word. I figured this out because I used a math term called Factorials. Factorials are when you take a number and put an exclaimation mark next to it. That basically means that you are taking this numer and multiplying it by each number that is smaller than this number. For example, 9!= 9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1. Rhetorical Slideshow

In Rhetoric, we are on our second Action Project. For this project, I had to select a mayoral candidate. I chose Willie Wilson. The reason I chose him was because I didn't know anything about him at first. For this project I had to use either pathos, logos, or ethos and explain why it relates to a quote that he said in his video. I created a slide show that tells you who Wilson is as a person and how he feels about wanting to become the mayor for Chicago. I decided to create a short slide show because I wanted to talk about Willie but in a short way. This project is going to help with the peoples assembly that we are having because we, as students, are trying to understand our mayoral candidates more and ask them questions on how they feel about certain things that we care about as Juniors that are in Chicago. Is Your Speech Rhetorical?

In Rhetoric, we have been talking about why people don't like rhetoric and what rhetoric really is. For this class, we have visited Marqueete Park and talked to Alia Bilal. We also had two people come in to talk to us. We had Troy LaRaviere and Ted Miin. For this AP, we had to create a speech about a question that really bothered us. We had to use logos (logic), ethos (trust), and pathos (love) in our speech because we want for our audience to feel what we are feeling. I chose a topic that means a lot to me because it has to do with my ethnicity of people. In my audio, I tried to show that I was demanding but I was very sick when I made this audio so it may not sound like I was trying to be demanding and show the emotion behind the words that were coming out of my mouth. But I do hope that you enjoy my speech about police brutality.
